Student leaders from National Junior Honor Society, Student Council, AVID and Service Learning at Oak Park Middle and Leesburg High joined teachers Lilly Jenkins and Ellyn Ball (and family members) along with members from Christian Worship Center and Men of Distinction to help serve the hungry on Thanksgiving.
“Doing everything from setting up tableware to boxing meals/desserts or even bussing tables and cleaning up garbage from the local field — giving of themselves selflessly to help their community was a heart-lifting sight for all,” Jenkins said.
About 20 students spent at least one hour while some were able to stay the full five hours to help from set-up to clean-up. This was the second year helping for some of the students, while it was the beginning of a wonderful tradition for others.
“Knowing that they were doing good for others was on the tips of all tongues throughout the event,” Jenkins said.
