Ex-Police Chief Sentenced to One Year in Jail

Daniel Saylor

On Friday, a judge in Orange County sentenced former Windermere Police Chief to one year in jail, followed by three years probation, in his bribery and corruption case.

Daniel Saylor, 44, of Sanford, was arrested in January, and again in March, on charges of bribery, misconduct and solicitation to tamper with evidence. He was also accused of hindering an investigation into rape allegations against a friend.

Last month, Saylor accepted a pled deal, pleading “no contest” to the following counts:

  •  Two counts of Official Misconduct
  •  One count of Solicitation to Commit Official Misconduct
  •  One count of Solicitation to Tamper with Evidence.

In return for the plea, the State dropped one count of bribery and one count of unlawful compensation for official behaviour.

At his sentencing, the judge told Saylor that he had failed to uphold his oath to serve the residents of Windermere, and that he had discredited himself, his family and the rest of the law enforcement community, cfnews13.com reports.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement, who investigated the case, expressed satisfaction with the outcome.
