Police: Victims in Fatal Car Crash Downtown Orlando Identified


Orlando police have identified the two persons killed in the early morning crash on W. Princeton Street near Orange Blossom Trail.

The deceased are: a 22-year-old Tastarian T. Benjamin (female) and 24-year-old Jarvis T. Reynolds, both passengers in a vehicle that stuck a utility pole just after 12:30 a.m.

Witnesses told police a car traveling at high speed east on W. Princeton Street, entered the intersection near N. Orange Blossom Trail, on a red traffic signal. The driver of the car was 24-year-old Shavonni A. Hemenez.

Police said, Hemenez lost control of the vehicle and it struck a cement utility pole on the south-east side of the intersection, about 200 feet east of N. OBT.

Hemenez and another passenger, Antoine Deven Davis, who turns 26 years today, were taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

Benjamin and Reynolds were pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending, police said. Neither the driver nor the three passengers were wearing seatbelts.

These deaths bring the number of traffic homicides for the year in Orlando to 20.
