Dr. Michael Blasewitz, principal of the Winter Springs High School in Seminole County, has been named 2011-2012 High School Principal of the Year. He was selected from a field of nine high school principals in the county.
Blasewitz graduated from Florida State University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Studies Education. He then completed his Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership from Nova University.
Under Blasewitz’s leadership, Winter Springs High School earned an “A” rating by the Florida Department of Education in 2010 and has been consistently named among the top 1000 high schools in America by Newsweek magazine. Winter Springs has also received the Five Star School award for the past 11 years. In addition, Winter Springs administers over 1100 Advanced Placement exams every year with an average passing rate of 65%.
An innovative leader, Dr. Blasewitz has implemented many creative programs. For at-risk students, he instituted a Study Skills course and a zero tolerance no homework policy as well as a mentor program. To develop highly effective teachers, he methodically implemented and continues to nurture Professional Learning Communities. Teachers work collaboratively to improve their own teaching, to assess student progress and to improve student learning.
During his tenure as a principal, Blasewitz has served as a leader in the Florida High School Athletic Association and has also taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Central Florida.
Michael Blasewitz is an outstanding representative of the leadership in the high-performing Seminole County Public School system.
Mr Blazewitz I was wondering on your reluctance to answer on the interview regarding leading Muslim prayers on the school / is your doctorate on muslim studies or maybe yourself a muslim maybe you should come at front and tell us so we can pull our children’s out of school rather than being forced into a religion tnat advocates for violence by the way who do you think you are to run like a coward, maybe you don’t feel as a public figure paid with our dollar to respond and be accountable for your actions. I think you should take your teachings some where else you are in the wrong place like you same as your president we still a Christian nation
