HD Supply, the Orlando Magic, Gilchrist Enterprises and Correct Craft have committed to sponsor four homes with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando Area using the Community Contribution Tax Credit Program (CCTCP). This program is in place to encourage Florida businesses to engage in charitable giving, even during tough economic times. Each company’s contribution will sponsor one townhome at Stag Horn Villas.
The CCTCP allows qualified organizations to pay the construction costs of a Habitat home and dedicate volunteer hours to the build. The CCTCP specifically encourages businesses to donate toward community development and low-income housing projects.
“During these difficult financial times, receiving funds, like those through the CCTCP, is vital,” said Lynn Ivanek, director of development for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando Area.
“The Orlando Magic is dedicated to building a strong community. As part of this commitment, we encourage our staff to volunteer. We are proud that through our collective efforts, we can help make the dream of homeownership a reality for one family,” said Linda Landman Gonzalez, vice president of community and government affairs for the Orlando Magic.
Employees from all four companies have also committed to volunteering on the Stag Horn construction site – working alongside the families who will benefit from the funding.
“For the past several years, HD Supply has partnered with Habitat to provide resources and volunteers to help build Stag Horn Villas. As a cornerstone of our company’s culture, the opportunity to be involved in this community service effort has been a wonderful and inspiring experience,” said Jody Fales, information technology director at HD Supply and a member of the Habitat for Humanity Orlando Board of Directors. “HD Supply is proud and humbled by the 14 homes and more than 1400 construction hours – working side-by-side with dedicated homeowners and volunteers – and that we have had the privilege of helping to make home ownership a reality for deserving families.”
The CCTCP contributions helped to underwrite construction expenses for 8 homes in Stag Horn Villas in 2011. This 10 building, 58-unit townhome community is Habitat Orlando’s first multifamily development. So far, 41 homes have been built in Stag Horn Villas, slated for completion in 2013.
