Gov. Rick Scott, who promised during his campaign to create 700,000 jobs in seven years and has slashed thousands of state worker jobs in his first budget signed last month, took off on Monday on a five-day trade mission to Canada to assist in that endeavor. Scott’s first stop is Montreal, but he will also visit Toronto.
A news release from Scott’s office indicated he will make an “important economic development announcement” Wednesday in Montreal.
“Combine the impact of two-way trade, investment and tourism, and Canada is Florida’s number one economic partner, so it makes sense that this would be one of my very first trade missions,” Scott said in the release. “Over the next week I will meet with Canadian officials and business leaders to discuss opportunities for increased trade, tourism and business that will benefit both of our economies.”
Scott will meet with Jean Charest, the premier of Quebec. He will also hold meetings with Lee McClenny, the U.S. Consul General in Montreal.
