On Wednesday, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer hosted the City’s annual hurricane preparedness training and review of its emergency management systems, policies and procedures in recognition of National Hurricane Preparedness this week and the start of the hurricane season, June 1.
The review is aimed at ensuring inter-agency coordination and communication before, during and after a possible hurricane helping to keep the City ready and able to respond to unexpected emergencies.
Dyer stressed the importance of all residents being informed and prepared in the event of an emergency and noted that, this year’s hurricane predictions are very similar to those in 2004 hurricane season where the community was affected by multiple storms.
“I want to encourage all Orlando residents and businesses to get informed on how to prepare and respond to a possible hurricane,” Dyer said. “It is our goal at the City of Orlando to protect our residents and businesses, to prevent loss of life and to minimize damage caused by hurricanes.”
In view of the importance of emergency preparedness, Dyer invited to news media to participate in an interactive training exercise as part of the City’s emergency management plan.
