School Nurse Arrested for Using Dead Man’s LPN License

Jose Carlos Rodriguez

A Lake County man in his jail, accused of practicing nursing at Lake County Schools without a license.

37-year-old Jose Carlos Rodriguez was arrested and charged with one count each of fraud, impersonating and misrepresenting himself, theft, using a false instrument and practicing without a health-safety license.

Rodriguez is believed to have obtained a copy of an LPN license that belonged to a Jose Rodriguez, 66 years, who died last year.  According to detectives, Rodriguez altered the license for his own use and was employed as an LPN for more than four years by Lake County Schools.

Rodriguez’ poor job performance led school officials to grow suspicious and he was suspended.

Detectives said, Rodriguez resigned shortly after he was suspended.

School officials confronted Rodriguez after checking his license status via the Department of Health and discovered he was using a fraudulent one.

Rodriguez had been assigned to Triangle Elementary School at the time of his resignation, but had spent most of his employment at Lake Hills School.

Detectives arrested Rodriguez on May 9th. He was booked into the Lake County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
