More than 200 volunteers from SAP America, Central Florida Urban League and Pine Hills Safe Neighborhood Partnership, organizers from KaBOOM! and residents of the Orlando community will join forces on Sunday, May 15 to build a new playground at Central Florida Urban League Park. The new playground’s design is based on drawings created by children who participated in a Design Day event in April.
The new playground will provide hundreds of children in the Orlando community with a safe place to play. Currently, the children in the neighborhood do not have a public playground within walking distance to enjoy. The 5-acre site of the playground was designated to become a park in 2006 and this project is the first step in the area’s transformation.
The playground is the 14th built by KaBOOM! and SAP America in an effort to fight the Play Deficit and save play. The project is one of more than 200 playground builds KaBOOM! will lead across the country in 2011 in an effort to provide a great place to play within walking distance of every child in America.
If you will like to help prepare the ground before Build Day on May 15, you should show up on prep-day, May 13th. Build captains who will like to manage a team of other volunteers are also needed. Captains are asked to attend a 45-minute orientation on prep-day, May 13th. No special skills are needed, but captains should feel comfortable directing a team of volunteers throughout the day.
You should contact Shellie-Ann Minnis, Community Relations at 407-841-7654 or at [email protected], if you would like to volunteer on May 15th. Also, if you will like to help prepare the playground site on Friday, May 13th from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
