Florida Libraries Dodge Tallahassee Bullet

Library officials got some good news today with the inclusion of an allocation in the state budget this year.

On Tuesday morning, the Republican-led Senate and House agreed to earmark $21.3 million to public libraries, a modest increase of $100,00 from last year.

Initially, the Senate had no money for state libraries in the budget proposal, while the House proposal was far less generous than what was eventually agreed to.

“It’s a real testament to (legislators’) recognition of how libraries contribute to the lives of Floridians and their response to the expressed concern of so many library users,” Faye Roberts, executive director of the Florida Library Association told the News Service.
