The crime rate in Orange County declined by 10.1 percent in 2010 over the previous year, Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) confirmed on Tuesday.
The 2010 Uniform Crime Report (UCR) also indicated that the number of murders dropped by 2.6 percent, forcible rape offenses decreased by 6 percent, robberies declined by 13.1 percent and aggravated assault decreased by 7.2 percent. In addition, in Orange County, the UCR reported declines in burglary (-4.7 percent), larceny (-12.3%), and motor vehicle thefts (-13.6 percent).
Statewide, FDLE said that the crime rate declined 6.7 percent for 2010 over 2009, reaching a rate that is the lowest in four decades. The 2010 UCR also indicated violent crime (murder, forcible sex offenses, robbery and aggravated assault) is down by 10.1 percent for the year while total non-violent crime–burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft–declined 6 percent.
