Man Dies in Police Custody at Universal’s City Walk

A man died while in the custody of law enforcement officers early on Friday morning, Orlando Police said.

33-year-old Adam S. Johnson died while in handcuffs and after being tased with a stun gun outside Universal Cinemax Theaters at City Walk.

Orlando Police Department (OPD) officers working off duty were called by Universal Studios Security in connection with a man acting irrational and disorderly, just before 12:30 am.

The man, later identified as Johnson, began to violently resist, while being restrained.  Johnson was tased by one of the officers and then handcuffed.

According to a statement from OPD, while on the ground, Johnson became non-responsive and officers began CPR.

Orlando Fire Department officers who responded to the scene transported Johnson to the Dr. Phillips Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has launched an investigation.
