Deputies: Construction Site Burglars Caught

Two men are behind bars having teamed up to burglarize a construction site and in the process, one of them attempting to run-down a law enforcement officer in the getaway van.

34 year-old Raymond Sanchez, of Orlando and 31-year-old Rodolfo Aviles, of Kissimmee, were arrested on Thursday morning and with one count each of burglarizing a construction site at 13010 South Orange Avenue where the Southern Orange county Water Treatment Facility is located.  Sanchez was also charged with aggravated assault on of a law enforcement officer.

Deputies have accused Sanchez and Aviles of cutting the chain on the fence to the gate of the property and making off with several drums of diesel fuel. Officers who were called to the location, began searching the construction site, before spotted a white Ford van in the distance driving away.

According to the incident report, the driver of the van, Sanchez, crashed through the front gate, where a deputy’s patrol car was parked so as to block the escape. In the process, Sanchez attempted to run-down one of the officers.

Deputies said, Sanchez proceeded to head northbound in the southbound lane on Orange Avenue, with Aviles bailing from the vehicle in the area of Taft Vineland Road.

Shortly after, Sanchez fled the van, running to hide in a tree.  A K-9 was easily able to lead deputies to Sanchez’ location.

Deputies arrested Sanchez and Aviles and carted them off to the Orange County Jail.

Sanchez was charged with burglary of a structure and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.  He is being held on a $8,500 bond.

Aviles, charged with burglary of a structure is being held on a $3,650 bond.
