Chanting “Enough is enough,” state employees swarmed through the Capitol today to plead with state legislators to protect their jobs and paychecks.
Members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees wore stickers proclaiming “Don’t tax state workers,” protesting proposed salary reductions that are part of the House and Senate budget negotiations. The $65 billion budget is in a joint committee for compromising but no public meetings have been held, with a week left in the 60-day legislative session.
“This proposed pay cut on state employees is nothing more than an income tax on state employees,” said Rep. Alan Williams, D-Tallahassee. “It’s just not right.”
