Who: Rebuilding Together Orlando understands the importance of a safe and healthy home.
Rebuilding Together of Central Florida (dba Rebuilding Together Orlando) is an affiliate of the national Rebuilding Together organization. We are a non-profit, 501 (c)3, volunteer-based program that repairs and rehabilitates homes and non-profit community facilities. We help low income people who own their own homes but are unable to maintain them such as the elderly, veterans, disabled people and families with children. We work collaboratively with community organizations, corporations and volunteers to preserve affordable housing, increase homeowner independence and lower energy consumption.
Our mission is accomplished through home repairs and modifications that create a safe, healthy and efficient home.
What: National Rebuilding Day April 30th (NRD)
National Rebuilding Day (NRD) occurs the last Saturday of April and on April 30th, 2011 we will celebrate the completion of the Orlando area rebuild projects that will begin on April 25th. Last year we did 6 houses on NRD. This year we will probably do more BUT it depends upon funding.
NRD brings together the efforts of over 200 affiliate chapters of Rebuilding Together across the country. Last year approximately 3,500 projects were completed throughout the Rebuilding Together Network. The projects were completed because of the generosity of our terrific sponsors, the engagement of our local skilled trade partners, and the tremendous expression of volunteerism from our army of 67,000 volunteers.
Although we’ve identified numerous deserving low income homeowners that would benefit from our services, the number we’ll be able to address is dependent upon the funding we receive. We’ve begun our efforts to secure funding by meeting with community leaders, individuals, business owners and representatives from corporations.
