NFL player William Brandon Meriweather was present at a shooting incident 10 days ago in Apopka that left one man with serious facial injuries and another with minor injuries, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said.
At a news conference on Thursday, the Sheriff’s Office declined to say Meriweather’s status in the investigation, but confirmed that the New England Patriots’ defensive back was present when 24-year-old Quentin Taylor and 23-year-old Nico Stanley were shot on February 28. Taylor sustained serious facial/head injuries when he was shot in the face and Stanley was grazed by a fired round, deputies said.
Captain Angelo Nieves also said, investigators would like to speak with Meriweather and confirmed investigators received a call yesterday from the player’s attorney.
Meanwhile, the Orlando Sentinel is reporting that Taylor and Stanley confirmed to their lawyer, Orlando attorney John Morgan, they were shot by Brandon Meriweather.
The investigation is ongoing and no charges have yet been filed in the shooting.
The Patriots released a statement saying, “We are aware of the reported allegation, but do not have any additional information.”
