Two elderly women were killed on Thursday in Volusia County when the vehicle in which they were traveling overturned several times, troopers said.
FHP sai, Lucy Weatherholtz, 76, of Flemming Island, was traveling northbound on I-95 on the inside lane when she drifted to the inside shoulder, over-corrected and ended on the center grass median. Weatherholtz’s Ford Explorer overturned several times and came to rest upright, at the tree line in the center grass median, facing north.
Weatherholtz was pronounced dead on the scene.
72-year-old Annette Jones, a passenger in the vehicle also died on the scene.
Marshall Weatherholz, 75, who was also in the Explorer suffered minor injuries.
The crash occurred on Thursday, around 2:00 p.m., on I-95 near the 253 Mile Marker.
