Pineloch Elementary Teacher Snags OCPS Honor

Patient, kind, and conscientious are three words describing Meltonia Presley. For 20 years she has worked at Orange County Public Schools and this year she is recognized for her dedication as a paraprofessional in an exceptional student education classroom. On Friday, January 28, 2011, all 201 nominees for Support Person of the Year from schools and work sites throughout the district attended a gala in honor of their service to students and staff.

The winner, Ms. Presley, is enrolled in college working on her teaching degree. Right now, she begins her workday at 7:30 a.m. offering a morning read-aloud session for students who arrive early at Pineloch Elementary.

She creates daily routines for students so they can feel comfortable in their classroom. She ensures that students are active and engaged. Not only does Ms. Presley work closely with students, she has a special bond with their parents recognizing everyone must work together for the success of a child.

She is a counselor with the City of Orlando, an active member in her church, and president of the local AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary. Now, Ms. Presley goes on to potentially be considered as winner of the Florida School-Related Employee of the Year Program.

For winning the OCPS honor, Ms. Presley received a check for $500 from the school district, a ring courtesy of Jostens, a one-year membership to COSTCO, a $50 Cheesecake Factory gift card courtesy of AXA Advisors, carry-on luggage courtesy of AAA Insurance, a two-night stay at the Rosen Centre Hotel and dinner for two at Café Gauguin, a three-day cruise for two to the Bahamas courtesy of Employee Travel Services, and a $500 check from CFE Federal Credit Union.
