A deputy opened fire on a suspect on Lakewood Point Avenue on Orange County’s east-side early Friday morning, during a robbery investigation.
Around 2:00 a.m. deputies received a call in connection with a stolen vehicle on Bibb Avenue in east Orange County.
Two deputies, who were responding to the stolen vehicle call, also received another call, this time regarding a suspicious person seen in the area.
At some point, a male suspect approached the deputies on Lake Point Avenue near Irmastone Way and made a furtive movement towards the deputies. One of the deputies pulled his service weapon and fired.
The suspect was injured and taken to ORMC, with non-life threatening injuries.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement is in the process of conducting an investigation into the deputy-involved shooting. The Sheriff’s Office is expected to conduct its own internal investigation.
Neither the name of the suspect nor the deputy involved in the shooting has been released.
