First Confirmed Positive Rabies Case in Polk County


Polk County Sheriff’s Animal Control officers have confirmed on Thursday, the first case of rabies in Polk County.

Test results from the State Laboratory confirmed a raccoon, that had an altercation with a dog in the area of Timberlake Road East in Lakeland, tested positive for the rabies virus.

Animal Control officers say, the dog’s owner was advised that the raccoon tested positive.
