Three People Seriously Injured, 1 Critical in Eastside Crash

One person is in critical condition and three people were seriously injured in a 3-car crash Sunday on Barksdale Drive, near Goldenrod Road on Orange County’s eastside.

FHP say, around 6:51 pm, a Pontiac Torrent, driven by 27-year-old Miyilena Palacio, of Orlando, was heading east on Barksdale Drive approaching Goldenrod Road.

A 2008 Chrysler Sebring, driven by Katiusca Garcia, 29, of Orlando was traveling south on Goldenrod Road and approaching Barksdale Drive.

Troopers say, Palacio attempted to make a left turn onto Golden Road when the front of the Chrysler collided with the left side of the Pontiac. The rear of the Pontiac then collided with a 2011 Acura-MDX which was stopped facing north on Goldenrod Road, in the left turn lane in front of Barksdale Drive.

Ana Fernandez, 55, of Orlando, one of the passengers in the Pontiac was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center with critical injuries.

Another passenger, Daniel Bermudez, 2 years, sustained serious injuries, while Palacio, the driver, sustained minor injuries.

Garcia, the driver of the Chrysler was seriously injured and taken to Winter Park Florida Hospital.

A passenger in the Chrysler, 15-year-old Virginia Machuca of Orlando, was seriously injured and taken to Winter Park Florida Hospital.

Another passenger in the Chrysler, a 6-year-old girl, received minor injuries.

The Acura’s driver, 47-year-old Sherry Taylor, suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. A passenger in the Acura was not injured.

Fernandez was not wearing a seat-belt at the time of the crash. The two other occupants of the Pontiac were using safety restraints.

All three Chrysler occupants and the driver and passenger in the Acura were also using safety restraints.

Troopers say the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
