Deputy Returns to Active Duty Following Attack

An Orange County Sheriff’s deputy who was critically injured last November while investigating an alleged grand theft and who shot and killed the suspect on the spot, returns to active duty today.

Deputy Sheriff Steve Cook, during a grand theft investigation of a store employee at a 7-eleven store on south Apopka Vineland Road was attacked by the suspect, who stabbed him several in the neck.  Deputy Cook, a 27-year veteran, responded by firing several times killing Gibrean Flores Remigio, 25 years, on the spot.

At the time of the shooting, an investigation was launch by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. It is not clear whether the investigation has been completed.

A similar investigation was initiated by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Shooting Team, whose outcomes remain unknown.
