Arizona Gunman to Appear in Phoenix Court

Jared L. Loughner, the suspected lone gunman in the shooting rampage in Tucson on Saturday morning, that left six people dead and 14 wounded, was charged on Sunday with multiple counts of murder, including the attempted assassination of a member of Congress.  He is expected to appear in a Phoenix court today.

Investigators who raided Loughner’s parent’s home where he lives, found an envelope in a safe with handwriting that said, “I planned ahead my assassination” and the name “Giffords” written on it.  Also found in the safe was a form letter from Congresswoman Giffords, thanking Loughner for attending a “Congress on Your Corner” event in 2007.

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords who suffered one ‘through and through’ gunshot to the head, remains in intensive care, but doctors said on Sunday that, while very early they were “very happy in terms of responsiveness” of the congresswoman.  Giffords doctors said they had removed almost half of her skull in the event of brain swelling, which remains the biggest threat.
