If left untreated, high blood pressure (hypertension) can lead to other serious health problems.
The following lifestyle changes may help you manage this condition:
- Review your diet. Start by reducing foods with high sale (sodium) content.
- Increase your physical activity. Any activity that raises your heart rate will help – even 10 minutes at a time. Check with your doctor if you are just starting to exercise.
- If you drink alcohol, limit your amount.
- Maintain a healthy weight. If you are overweight, check with your health care provider about making a plan to lose weight.
- Mind your medications. If you take medications for high blood pressure, make sure you take them as prescribed.
