Uncle Tom Owes Me

The Gantt Report

Every time a Black radical, Black militant or Black community activist stands up and speaks out about inequality, injustice, exploitation or oppression or some other wrong, an Uncle Tom or Aunt Jemima gets a job.

The freedom fighter never gets hired! Martin was smart, Malcolm was smart, Garvey was smart, talented and skilled but no government and no private corporations recruited any of those guys for any job openings!

Ever since white settlers landed on Plymouth Rock and Plymouth Rock landed on us, it has been the exact same way.

I wonder where I would be now if I had scratched my head, buck danced, bowed down and kept quiet on my jobs at WSB-TV and at The Atlanta Journal newspaper back in the early 1970s.

Perhaps I would still be working there and the handkerchief-headed Jezebel that is the star anchor at WSB and the neocolonialist puppet that writes columns for the Atlanta paper would be unemployed.

Yes, The Rosa Parks, the Angela Davis and Fannie Lou Hammers of the world risked their lives and sacrificed their careers to stand up for their people and to stand up for principles that they believed in.

Just look back just a short time ago, prior to the 2010 elections, our community was filled with people saying vote for this or that party and things will be better for African Americans. All the while the modern day Fiddlers and Chicken Georges were telling us that Democrats and Republicans loved us while some in our community were constantly saying Black voters and Black citizens were being neglected and disrespected by all candidates.

For all of their love, 2010 Buckwheats got nothing but false promises from the politicians but when the fearless community activists began to call out representatives from both major parties, only then did Black newspapers and other political vendors began to see some crumbs of political money trickle in one week or so before the Election.

I don’t have to tell you that the rabble rousers got little or nothing and most money went to those Black media owners and vendors that were as quiet as church mice.

But that’s OK. The God-fearing, so-call Christian soldiers stood up and spoke out not to get political contracts, they spoke out about unfairness because it was the right thing to do.

One day, God willing, the modern day freedom fighters will be recognized by Black community members for their outstanding contributions to our progress and survival. I salute the sisters and brothers across the country that do the right thing, tell the truth and fight the modern day devils that oppress the people economically, socially and spiritually every day. Keep up the good work. More people appreciate the things you do than you think.

Meanwhile, if you run across a millennium Amos and Andy or Sapphire any time soon, tell them they owe The Gantt Report!
