Christina Webb was awarded the Community LEEDership Award at the US Green Building Council’s 2010 Central Florida’s LEEDership Dinner, held on October 26. Ms. Christina Webb has a long history of rolling up her sleeves to get things done in the name of sustainable growth and development. Even before she entered her professional career, while a student, she created a non-profit organization dedicated to recycling sports equipment. At the University of Central Florida, where she earned a Masters Degree in Environmental Policy, she was the first graduate student to present the topic of Green Building in the Masters program.
As a multi-family developer Christina gathered and presented empirical data needed to convince the financial world that green buildings make good sense. In her current position as the Director of the Central Florida Energy Efficiency Alliance (CFEEA), Webb is assisting existing commercial buildings lower their energy use and reduce the community’s carbon footprint through the Kilowatt Crackdown (kwcrackdown.com). To date, 1600 buildings have registered for the Kilowatt Crackdown Challenge. She has brought local engineering students to the program, offering assistance to the commercial building owners while creating unprecedented learning and job opportunities. CFEEA is an alliance of governments, associations, universities and utilities, funded by Orange County’s stimulus funds.
Through Christina’s leadership, she mobilized local green advocates and created one of the first U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) chapters in the State, the Central Florida Chapter. Then to introduce the Chapter and USGBC to the local community, she single-handedly organized the Chapter’s first LEEDership Dinner. At the recent dinner where Webb received her award, there were 350 in attendance, a tribute to the program she created. More recently, she designed the Legacy Program to help increase the number of LEED certified buildings, while at the same time, providing much-needed hands-on education to Chapter members.
In addition to these many accomplishments, Webb is leading Orange County’s Green Destination program. She is also working to establish one of Florida’s first Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) programs, which is a bond through local government to fund commercial and residential energy retrofits.
