Robbery Suspect Arrested After East Side High Speed Chase

Two suspects led deputies on a high speed chase after robbing an Advance America Cash Advance Store on east Colonial Drive on Wednesday.   The chase ended after the suspects crash into three vehicles, with deputies apprehending one of the suspects, while the other fled from the vehicle, eluding capture.

According to deputies, armed suspects robbed the Advance America Cash Advance store on 10376 east Colonial Drive and fled the location in a blue Audi vehicle. Deputies identified the suspects fleeing the scene and commanded the vehicle to stop but were ignored and the suspects were able to elude deputies at Lake Underhill and Dean Road.

Aerial surveillance called to assist, monitored the path of the suspects travel east on Curryford Road and north on Alafaya Road, at high rates of speed.  The driver of the Audi lost control of the vehicle and ended up in the southbound lanes of traffic striking three vehicles. One of the suspects bolted from the vehicle on foot and tried to commit a carjacking in the process, but a trooper on the scene gave chase, eventually tasing the suspect to subdue him.

Other deputies conducted an exhaustive search for the outstanding suspect, considered armed and dangerous, with negative results.   Robbery investigators also responded to the scene and are conducting follow-up in order to identify the second suspect and make an arrest.

The suspect in custody has been arrested and charged with armed robbery and eluding law enforcement officers, among other charges.  His name has not yet been released.
