Zachary Segal, son of Orange County mayoral candidate Bill Segal, was arrested earlier this week and charged with drug charges.
Segal, 28, was stopped by deputies at the intersection of Kaley Street and Lee Street, a high crime area, after he pulled his car well ahead of the marked white stop bar for the stop sign. A computer check of the vehicle’s tag revealed that it had recently expired on October 18th. A search of the vehicle turned up two insignificant pieces of crack cocaine with questionable origin.
Segal, while nervous, surrendered and complied with deputies’ investigation. He was transported to the 33rd Street booking facility.
Aware of the media frenzy this may cause, the Segal family issued a short, yet solemn statement which said, “We respect law enforcement and we also love our son and will stand by him through the legal process. We hope the media will keep in mind that our son is not a public figure and respect his privacy during this difficult time.”
