A Clermont toddler is dead after she was accidentally run over by her mother’s boyfriend who believed that the child had already exited the vehicle, FHP said. The accident took place on South Buckhill Road and CR 455 in Lake County around 7:20 pm on Monday.
Troopers said that a 2002 Dodge pick-up driven by Jose Baizabal, 26, of Clermont was parked in the grass at a residence at South Buckhill Road and CR 455 in Lake County. The driver was helping the mother of the toddler and his girlfriend, move. Baizabal then got into the vehicle to leave and thought that all the children were already in the home. As he pulled forward, the left front of his pick-up ran over two-year-old Natalie Santiago.
Natalie was taken to the South Lake Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Troopers are continuing with their investigation and charges are pending.
