Lake County Cop Seriously Hurt in Car Crash

A Lake County deputy suffered serious injuries after his patrol car was struck by a pick-up on Monday morning on CR 452 near Apiary Road in Lake County.

Troopers said that Deputy Matthew Albandor, 27, of Lake County was in his patrol car, a 2007 Chevy, which was stopped on Apiary Road.  A 1997 Chevy pick-up, driven by Fernando Carminell, 42, of Umatilla, was traveling on CR 452 around 9:10 am.  Albandor pulled out from the stop sign into the direct path of Carminell.  The front of the pick-up struck Albandor driver’s side.

Albandor was taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

Carminell sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash.  He was taken to Waterman Hospital.

Florida Highway Patrol said that the crash remains under investigation and that charges are pending against Albandor.
