Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Homicide agents arrested the suspect in the Sunday morning stabbing of Russell Ryder.
Robert Lee Sykes, 46, of 3350 Williams Avenue, Malabar, was arrested on Wednesday after an arrest warrant was issued for the charge of 2nd degree murder. Sykes was taken into custody without incident. Sykes is being held at the Brevard County Jail on a no bond status.
The arrest stemmed from a disturbance call that deputies responded to at 3350 Williams Avenue, Valkaria, at approximately 1:00 A.M Sunday morning. Deputies located the victim, 51-year-old Russell Ryder, in a vacant lot near the residence with multiple stab wounds. Ryder had a faint pulse and was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead later Sunday morning.
The investigation has revealed that Sykes was the aggressor in the altercation, armed himself with a knife and inflicted the fatal injuries to the victim.
