The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), together with the Clean Boating Partnership, today recognized the Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club as the 228th member of the Florida Clean Marina Program. This is the 17th Clean Marina designation in Palm Beach County.
The program, which recognizes marinas and boatyards for their commitment to the protection of Florida’s waterways and natural resources, now boasts 226 Clean Marinas, 33 Clean Boatyards and 11 Clean Marine Retailers statewide.
“Becoming a Clean Marina requires a forward-looking management team and a hardworking, dedicated staff,” said DEP Southeast District Director Jack Long. “The Department is pleased that the Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club is now a designated Clean Marina and is taking the initiative to preserve our waterways by reducing waste, preventing pollution and protecting our marine resources.”
The Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club, which is the 59th designated Clean Marina in the DEP Southeast District, adds 61 wet slips and a pump-out station to the Clean Marina community.
“It is an honor to be on the list of Clean Marinas for the State of Florida,” said Royal Palm Marina Manager Zack Rice. “Our goal is to continue our fifty year tradition of being a good citizen of the community and state. I hope that we inspire other marinas to join in our commitment to the environment.”
Florida has more than one million registered motorized vessels and more than 2,000 marinas – the largest number of marine facilities in the country. Drawing millions of visitors each year, Florida’s clear waters, world-class beaches and coral reefs support a $60.8 billion tourism industry, an $18.9 billion boating industry and a fishing industry that injects more than $7.5 billion a year into Florida’s communities. Protecting Florida’s waterways is essential.
“The Clean Boating Partnership applauds the Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club for its commitment to Florida’s environment,” said the Partnership’s Chair Mark Leslie. “The dedication and hard work in becoming a Clean Marina is an accomplishment this facility can be proud of and we welcome it to our growing Clean Marina family.”
