Early Sunday Morning Crash Leaves 1 Dead, 2 Injured

An early Sunday morning crash of a vehicle into a guardrail on State Road 417 near Berry Dease Road in Orange County, has left a female passenger dead.  The driver of the car and another passenger suffered minor injuries.

According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a 2008 Dodge vehicle driven by Douglas Leighton, 42, was traveling southbound on SR 417 around 12:30 am on Sunday morning, approaching Berry Dease Road.

For an unknown reason, the car collided with a guardrail on the shoulder. The vehicle rotated approximately 180 degrees before rolling over the guardrail and down the embankment of the Berry Dease Road overpass.  The vehicle came to a stop at the bottom of the embankment facing SR 417.

There were two passengers traveling in the vehicle: Kevin Wheeler 50 years and Renee Domaingue, 47.

Leighton, the driver and Wheeler were both taken to Florida Hospital with minor injuries following the crash.

Domaingue died on the spot.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.   It is not clear whether the vehicle was traveling at too high a rate of speed at the time of the accident.

FHP is continuing with their investigation.   Charges are pending, troopers said.
