The Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Infrastructure Protection (IP) is hosting the second annual Critical Infrastructure and Key Resources Asset Protection Technical Assistance Program (CAPTAP) Conference on June 23-24, 2010, in Orlando, Florida. The conference provides a no-cost training opportunity for State and local first responders, government officials, and homeland security partners. It will also showcase cutting-edge training and real world applications to enhance the capability of State and local partners to respond to disasters.
This year’s CAPTAP Conference builds on the success of last year’s inaugural conference, held in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where nearly 200 representatives from 38 States and two U.S. territories participated. Each took part in a series of panels and discussions aimed at building awareness of critical infrastructure protection and resilience (CIPR) best practices and exchanging State and local lessons learned. Participants also gained valuable insights into current sector issues and learned about tools available to assist with local, regional, and State CIPR implementation efforts.
This year will be even more informative as DHS is collaborating with the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command to provide conference participants with education and training opportunities to meet the infrastructure protection needs of Federal and State CAPTAP training teams, State and territorial CIPR Coordinators, State Homeland Security Advisors, and other State and local infrastructure protection personnel.
Featured Speaker
The 2010 CAPTAP Conference will feature the DHS Assistant Secretary for Infrastructure Protection Todd M. Keil as the opening Keynote Speaker. Mr. Keil will describe the Office of Infrastructure Protection’s new regional approach, capabilities and work to help communities make their infrastructure safer and more resilient in the face of hurricane and other hazards. “Resilience will be an enduring message as we expand our regional footprint, and work with our partners to enhance our products and services.”
