Five persons–three adults and two juveniles–are in police custody, after a shoot out involving a deputy early on Saturday morning in the vicinity of Chateau Road and Le Harve Boulevard in Pine Hills, Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) investigators said.
At approximately 4:23 am on Saturday morning the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Communication Center received a 9-1-1 call in reference to multiple subjects loitering and prowling in the area of Chateau Road and Le Harve Blvd. The first deputy to arrive on scene began to investigate on foot in an effort to observe the suspects’ actions. The suspects became aware of the officer’s presence, walked over to a black vehicle and got inside, as if to leave. Before leaving the area the suspects maneuvered the vehicle back and forth in what appeared to be an effort to ascertain the exact location of the officer. The suspects then fired multiple rounds at the deputy. The deputy in fear for his life returned fire. The suspects remained in the vehicle and fled the scene.
Units responding to the area observed the suspects’ vehicle fleeing, later pulling into a driveway at Kingsland Avenue and Indialantic Drive. The suspects blacked out the vehicle’s lights and deputies were able to secure all five occupants at the driveway without further incident.
Upon making contact with the suspects, one of them was found to be suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency assistance was rendered and the wounded suspect, tentatively identified as a 15-year-old juvenile, was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Currently, five subjects in custody, including three adults and two juveniles. One of the adults is a female. A firearm was located inside the suspects’ vehicle.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office investigative units are on scene conducting a follow up investigation in reference to the shooting incident. Detectives have located a second firearm and body armor believed to have been discarded by the suspects.
Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings has requested the assistance of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) in conducting an independent investigation into the deputy involved shooting incident.
Investigators said that the suspects and vehicle match the descriptions of multiple armed robbery cases that occurred late Friday night and early Saturday morning.
Orange County Robbery Units are on scene. There are additional crimes which remain under investigation which may be attributed to this groups’ crime spree this morning.
Deputies are not releasing the names of the 5 in custody at this time.
