Lancaster Elementary Honored with National Character Education Award

Lancaster Elementary has received a “Profile in Character” award from the nation’s Character Education Partnership (CEP) in Washington, DC.  CEP is the organization that selects the National School of Character award winners every year. Lancaster was recognized for its exemplary and unique demonstration of two principles – a caring school community and providing students with opportunities for moral action.

The following actions were considered in awarding Lancaster Elementary:

  • Welcome signs promoting community unity
  • Inspirational banners throughout the school promoting a positive school climate
  • All parental correspondence provided in native languages
  • Numerous parental events and family nights throughout the year
  • All teachers and students sign up for service learning projects
  • Students design positive community message bags for a local grocery store
  • Holding monthly “Friendship Friday” celebrations
  • Having a “Caring Community Courtyard”
  • Sponsoring an Annual Hispanic Heritage Festival
  • Parent Resource Center providing food, clothing, and counseling

Lancaster is the only school in Central Florida this year to receive national recognition from CEP for its leadership in character education, and one of only 18 schools in the nation to receive the “Profile in Character” award.
