A man was killed after being hit by a car, then by a semi, and nearly decapitated early Thursday morning on West Colonial Drive and Hiawassee Road in Orange County.
The victim was hit by a car while walking across West Colonial Drive. The FHP took measurements around the body and used flashlights to look for traces of skid marks, which helps determine if the drivers tried to slow down.
Troopers said 20-year-old Antoinette Whitley was driving a black Nissan Altama and traveling west on Colonial Drive when she hit the man. The woman stopped and got out of her car to check on the man.
“It was a fatal crash and it was not a pretty one. That’s all I can tell you at this time,” said FHP Trooper Michael Bonner.
Investigators believe the semi driving behind her hit the man a second time, nearly decapitating him. The truck driver kept going.
Whitley said she called her parents and WFTV spoke with her father as soon as he arrived at the scene.
“She said something about some guy got hit or something crossing the road, so I am going to go find out what really happened,” said Whitley’s father, Andrew Leaster.
The Florida Highway Patrol said they were looking for a new model white semi truck with blue and gold lines and possibly a star on the side.
