The Florida House unanimously passed and sent to the Senate a bill (HB 119) creating a 300-foot zone around places where children congregate that would be off limits to sex offenders.
The measure would shift the state away from simply restricting where sex offenders can live, and refocus on keeping them actually away from going places where there are children, such as schools and playgrounds.
“HB 119 focuses on creating a circle of safety within 300 feet of where children are congregating, ensuring that the child is protected regardless of the venue,” said the bill’s sponsor, Rep. Rich Glorioso, R-Plant City.
