A recent traffic stop led to the arrest of an armed felon in Central Florida.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested the seven-time convicted felon in Riverview, near Tampa. HCSO’s Street Crimes Unit conducted the traffic stop at the intersection of Balm Riverview Road and McMullen Loop.
With verbal consent to search the vehicle, deputies discovered methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a loaded Taurus 9mm firearm located at the feet of the front-seat passenger, 37-year-old David Lewis.
According to law enforcement, Lewis, a seven-time convicted felon currently on felony probation for Driving While License Suspended or Revoked was arrested and charged with Armed Possession of a Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Law enforcement said that Lewis also faces a violation of his probation.
“This arrest highlights the importance of proactive policing in keeping dangerous individuals off our streets,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Our deputies are committed to protecting our community and ensuring justice is served.”
This is an active investigation, according to local law enforcement.
