The 1st quarter reports are in and a clear frontrunner is emerging in the race for Orange County Sheriff. Jerry Demings (D) outpaces his closest opponent nearly 3 to 1 when it comes to campaign contributions. For the 1st quarter of 2008, Demings raised $154,411.20 from contributors all over Central Florida who believe in his experience to lead law enforcement in Orange County. Demings is the former Orlando Police Chief and Orange County Public Safety Director who officially filed his candidacy for Orange County Sheriff in January of 2008.
Contributions ranged from $15 to the maximum allowed by law ($500), representing Demings’ diverse support throughout the Central Florida community.
Demings says, “I’ve met so many people who are concerned about their safety and who want to see change in Orange County, and I’m grateful that they’ve put their faith in me to bring experienced leadership to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
