The findings of the just-concluded Commission of Inquiry into allegations of corruption by Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) Premier Michael Misick and his administration are not yet in but already the premier has announced he will call it quits.
Misick, who is alleged to have engaged in corruption and a lavish lifestyle as premier, said he will step down as party head on February 28th, the last day of the month and as Premier from March 31st.
Misick, told a press conference that a lack of support for his government has forced him to step down as leader of the Progressive National Party on February 28th, when party members are scheduled to vote for a new leader.
“What the country and our party need now more than ever is stability and certainty. I have tried in recent weeks to create this. It now appears to me that the divide within the party is too deep,” he said.
The announcement came on the same day that Deputy Premier Floyd Hall announced he was resigning and a day after Home Affairs and Public Safety Minister Galmo said he was leaving his Cabinet post.
Williams is set to join Hall in the battle for leadership of the PNP at the convention.
