Congressman Maxwell Frost and Orange County Commissioner Mike Scott provided an update on Orlando FEMA funds, saying there is a lot of misinformation.
Commissioner Scott said many residents were reaching out about FEMA direct assistance after Hurricane Milton, so he brought in the Orlando Democratic Congressman to clear things up.
Hurricane Milton has not yet been declared for individualized emergency disaster assistance. First, a process takes place where the state of Florida and FEMA do preliminary assessments of the impact of the storm. President Joe Biden has already approved emergency declarations to provide direct federal support in relief and recovery efforts for Hurricane Milton.
“Again, there is no FEMA assistance right now, but we’ll keep you updated if it does come,” Commissioner Scott said.
Rep. Frost did say that assessments were taking place, and he visited a local command center recently. The Democrat warned against disinformation and misinformation spreading.
The U.S. Representative said to wait to hear official updates about Orlando FEMA funds from his office, or the Orange County Commissioner’s office for assistance updates, and to avoid believing everything people are posting on social media.
There may be assistance available for Hurricane Helene, and there could be confusion about what is happening with the Central Florida recovery efforts.
Once individualized emergency disaster assistance is available, Congressman Frost said he will update his office site with any additional information provided by FEMA and other federal agencies who are supporting recovery efforts.
