A Central Florida woman was convicted of stabbing two children after a four-day trial.
An Osceola County jury found 40-year-old Doris Espinoza-Rodriguez, guilty of two counts of Attempted Second Degree Murder with a Weapon, Aggravated Child Abuse (With a Weapon) and Felony Battery for stabbing two children.
On January 16, 2023, Espinoza-Rodriguez stabbed two children inside an Osceola County home. Osceola County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived on scene and found the children’s father had detained the defendant by pinning her to the ground.
The two children were treated for stab wounds while the father received medical care for lacerations on his hand. Deputies arrested Espinoza-Rodriguez and charged her with the attempted murder of the two minors.
During the trial, the defendant testified in her defense, attempting to claim self-defense by alleging the father had ordered the children to attack her.
After a four-day trial, a jury found Espinoza-Rodriguez guilty of two counts of Attempted Second Degree Murder with a Weapon, Aggravated Child Abuse (With a Weapon) and Felony Battery. She will be sentenced in December.
According to the State Attorney’s office, the lowest possible sentence for Felony Battery is nearly 20 years, each Attempted Second Degree Murder charge carries a maximum of 30 years and the Aggravated Child Abuse with a Weapon charge is punishable by life in prison.
