A Central Florida suspect who painted his face and attempted a bank robbery in broad daylight was arrested after a local investigation.
He tried to rob a bank in Sun City Center, south of Tampa. Last week at approximately 4:30pm, the suspect entered the Cadence Bank at 4842 Sun City Center Blvd and passed a note to the teller demanding money.
The suspect then fled in a vehicle with no license plate.
Through investigative means, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office detectives identified the suspect as 47-year-old Jesus Mendoza, Jr.
“The suspect’s selfish and bold attempt to rob a bank in broad daylight proves his complete disregard for the safety and well-being of others,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “In an odd and desperate measure, this suspect tried to conceal his identity by painting his face, but it was no match for the diligent work of our deputies. To those who seek to interfere with our community’s safety, we will find you and make sure you face the consequences.”
Jesus Mendoza, Jr. is facing one charge of Robbery Less than $750. Last week, detectives arrested him and transported him to Orient Road Jail.
Mendoza, Jr. previously served time in federal prison for a bank robbery with a firearm that he committed in 2008.
Surveillance photos from the attempted robbery were provided by the Sheriff. This an active investigation, according to local law enforcement.
