A Central Florida inmate was found coordinating fentanyl sales with outside contacts and the three people have been charged for their involvement.
This month, detectives with Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office’s Opioid Overdose Investigation Section received a tip that an inmate at the Falkenburg Road Jail in Tampa, 40-year-old Leundro Childs, was using his girlfriend, 30-year-old Tanisha Gort, to coordinate selling fentanyl to various people.
Local detectives conducted an undercover transaction where they found Gort and an accomplice, 25-year-old Alazae Pritchett, attempting to sell the fentanyl to local detectives during the undercover deal.
The two were arrested and taken into custody without incident. Gort is facing charges of Trafficking in Fentanyl (28 Grams or More). Pritchett is facing charges of Trafficking in Fentanyl (28 Grams or More).
Search warrants were served for Gort’s residence and a storage unit where detectives found over 1.5 kilograms of fentanyl and two semi-auto rifles.
Childs is an 18-time convicted felon and was already serving time in FRJ for drug charges. According to local law enforcement, he is now facing an additional charge for Conspiracy to Traffic in Illegal Drugs 28 Grams – 30 Kilograms.
“It deeply disgusts me to see individuals using their time in our correctional facilities to perpetuate the opioid crisis on our streets. The actions of this 18-time felon and his accomplices are a stark reminder of the lengths some will go to fuel this devastating epidemic,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “However, I am immensely proud of all the work our Opioid Overdose Investigation detectives do and their tireless efforts to stop these criminals.”
