Three Central Florida suspects were arrested this month in the city of Deltona following a shooting in DeLand stemming from a theft of a purse.
A woman realized her purse was stolen from her car at Taylor Place Apartments in DeLand. Around 1pm, she got a notification that her stolen credit card was used at Checker’s in DeLand, so she drove there with two others to confront the suspects.
The victim found the suspects in a car in the drive-through lane. She grabbed her purse and credit card from the car, and the driver drove off.
The victim reported she later spotted the vehicle in DeLand and started following it. She said the suspects realized they were being followed, and two suspects started firing at them from the back seats while traveling on Spring Garden Avenue. No one was shot or injured.
Deputies found the suspect vehicle, still occupied, at the registered owner’s address in Deltona. The three Central Florida occupants were taken into custody on the following charges:
- Willie Goosby III: three counts aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm from a vehicle.
- Makhi Edwards: three counts aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, violation of juvenile probation.
- Alyssa Levy: principal to three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, tampering with evidence.
Detectives recovered shell casings from two firearms, as well as firearms and ammunition matching the shell casings from the scene.
The DeLand Police Department is handling the investigation of the purse theft and credit card fraud.
