Kayla Cristell, SEA LIFE Orlando’s very own aquarist, is going to help the ocean one coral at a time at the annual Coralpalooza happening this World Oceans Day, June 8th, off the coast of Florida.
This event, hosted by the Coral Restoration Foundation, will accomplish a bulk planting of coral in one large community effort. Divers and aquarists come together from far and wide to help deliver thousands of corals back to the ocean and/or work to maintain the offshore nurseries.
To celebrate World Oceans Day every year, Coral Restoration Foundation mobilizes hundreds of ocean lovers in Florida and around the world to take action to restore the planet’s disappearing coral reefs. Boats are going out of the Upper Keys on June 6th, 7th, and 8th, and from the Lower Keys on June 7th and June 8th.
SEA LIFE Trust, a charity partner of Merlin Entertainments’ SEA LIFE Aquariums, has donated funding for nine SEA LIFE aquarists/divers including, the Orlando-based Kayla Cristell, Kayla Eustace, Steve Baareman, and Ashley Albrecht.
The team is excited to join this amazing conservation initiative and is looking forward to being part of it for many years to come.
In 2023, the Coralpalooza™ Community resulted in more than 15,200 new corals returned to wild habitats in a single day, thanks to over 20 organizations from 13 countries who mobilized more than 960 staff and volunteers. These efforts were recognized as part of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.
