DoE announces Literacy Award Winners

Each year, Florida Department of Education (DoE) honors educators who are tops when it comes to teaching reading or promoting a culture of literacy throughout a school district or at an individual school.  Those selected as Just Read, Florida! Literacy Award winners begin at the district level and then go on to represent the district at the regional level and finally the state level is chosen.

This year’s winners in Orange County Public Schools are:

District Reading Leader of the Year                        Superintendent Ronald Blocker

Elementary Reading Teacher of the Year            Danielle Spooney – Washington Shores Elementary School

Elementary Reading Coach of the Year                 Carla Duck – Tangelo Park Elementary School

Elementary Reading Leader of the Year                 Kathryn Shuler – principal, Mollie Ray Elementary School

Middle School Reading Teacher of the Year         Tawanna Burke – Silver Star Center

Middle School Reading Coach of the Year           Thomas Nigel Hames – Chain of Lakes Middle School

High School Reading Teacher of the Year           Christine McCall – Boone High School

High School Reading Leader of the Year            Margaret McMillen – principal, Boone High School
