Deputy Sheriff Fired for Choking Suspect and Lying

An Orange County Deputy Sheriff was let go from his job after using excessive force and profanity during an arrest and then lying about it, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputy Jeffrey Iannuzzi, while arresting Brandlyn Reynolds for loitering and prowling, on August 25 2009, charged at and slammed his head on the hood of his sheriff’s vehicle several times.  Reynolds said he was also “kneed” by Iannauzzi and once inside the patrol car, his head was slammed into the plastic partition.  He said he was choked, as Iannuzzi screamed and cursed at him.  He was subsequently charged with resisting an officer without violence.   At the time of his arrest, Reynolds was riding his bicycle with a friend, Bryan Boudlin.

The Professional Standards investigated the incident and found that Iannuzzi did use excessive force and profane language while arresting Reynolds.  In addition, Iannuzzi lied during the investigation into Reynolds’ allegation.

Iannuzzi was discharged on February 5th 2010.  He was hired by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office on December 4th 2008 and assigned to Uniform Patrol Sector I.
