Missing Winter Springs Mother Found Dead in Apopka Storage Unit

Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies found a missing Winter Springs mother dead inside of an Apopka storage unit.

OCSO deputies responded to the Self Storage at 2400 Wiggins Rd. in Apopka and found Shakeira Rucker dead inside a storage unit, after a smell was reported coming from the unit.

Local law enforcement said this is now an Orange County homicide case. Orange County Sheriff John Mina said the victim appeared to have died from apparent gunshot wounds.

The effort to locate this missing woman spanned all over Central Florida. Sheriff Mina mentioned that Lake County, Seminole County, Polk County and Orange County all assisted Winter Springs Police in the search. “We were all hoping for a different outcome,” Sheriff Mina said.

Law enforcement said that Rucker’s estranged husband, Cory Hill, is the prime suspect in the disappearance and now murder. He is already in the Orange County jail under no bond status. The storage unit where the body was found was registered to Hill.

“Shakeira’s family was notified this evening,” OCSO stated. “We grieve with them and our detectives are committed to bringing them justice in this case.”
